2018 was a chaotic year full of some of the most harrowing news cycles many of us have ever encountered, there was a bright spot in all the craziness: This year also offered some of the best comedy movies hollywood in recent memory. From the surreal and unexpected (Sorry to Bother You) to the foul-mouthed and searching to the just plain fun (Game Night, Isle of Dogs), these hilarious movies were some of the only things capable of taking your mind off the real news—even for just a few hours.
1. The Favourite
This movie is not for kids. It’s a movie for adults. And when I say adults, I don’t just mean those over the age of 18. This best comedy movies is for people that can watch movies that are dark and uncomfortable to watch and very much appreciate that the director doesn’t even pretend that this is a Downtown Abbey-type of polite British costume drama.
Director: Yorgos Lanthimos
2. The Spy Who Dumped Me
Audrey and her best friend Morgan find themselves embroiled in a major international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend unexpectedly re-enters her life with a team of assassins on his trail and reveals that he is actually a CIA agent. it was good. Not the funniest best comedy movies hollywood or the best action sequences but it stayed entertaining through its run time. McKinnon carries the comedic weight and Kunis is great eye candy. The two best scenes in this movie were the first two fight sequences: The one right at the start with Theroux killing a lot of people, and the one in the restaurant with Heughan killing a lot of people.
Director: Susanna Fogel
3. Life of the Party
When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime and dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into reset by going back to college. Unfortunately, Deanna winds up at the same school as her less-than-thrilled daughter. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the outspoken new student soon begins a journey of self-discovery while fully embracing all of the fun, freedom and frat boys that she can handle. There are some laughs in Life of the Party, but, the Melissa McCarthy character wears thin pretty quickly. The young friends are actually funnier. And Ms. McCarthy, herself, was far better, and funnier, as Sean Spicer than she is in this movie.
Director: Ben Falcone
4. Sorry to Bother You
This is one of the hollywood best comedy movies of 2018 ! I love everything about it; the cast was fantastic, the writing was great, but I wanna talk about the cinematography and mise en scene (the other part of my brain is yelling at me for how pretentious that sounds). I really like how when he’s just in Oakland with his mates and girlfriend it’s vibrant, using every colour imaginable. His world when he’s part of the working class is filled with the warmth of the surrounding people. But when he’s in the call centre and his home after becoming rich, it’s clinical and white. As weird as this sounds, I think his (black) skin tone makes him stand out even more against the pure white of this world of wealth. This clinical nature contrasts to the warmth of his old life, now that he’s lost his friends and the ability to fight for the things he believes in. Best Comedy Movies

5. Crazy Rich Asians

Before long, his secret is out: Nick’s family is wealthy, and he’s considered the most eligible bachelor in Asia. Every single woman is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.
Director: Jon M. Chu
6. Game Night
A group of friends who meet regularly for game nights find themselves trying to solve a murder mystery. This movie was simply amazing. A great detailed story. A few plot twists that I didn’t see coming. Great character/actor chemistry. An all around amazing movie. The Soundtrack here is surprisingly amazing. It reminds me a lot of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. Long drawn out computer boises with flares here and there really being you into the Best Comedy Movies.
